Hi GO

Your collection is fantastic, as is your obvious love and knowledge, so I'm a bit hesitant to query your description... how did you come to the approximate date for this? The style of clothing and accessories don't seem right for the turn of the 20th century; skirts were longer, boots were more common than what appears to be a ladies' low-heeled pump, and handbags were not commonly depicted as part of an ensemble. My guess based on the hemline, handbag and handwriting would be post-WWI ie. late teens / early 20s, so to see this style depicted that much earlier would be really fascinating and remarkable, especially if drawn in Boston. Lincolnshire

Hi happymonkey.
Thanks for your interest in my website and for taking the time to comment. I'd also like to compliment you on your fine eye for detail. I'm curious as to your knowledge of period dress.
You are correct about the time period. The date should read circa 1915. In this case it was merely a typo on my part and I have corrected it. There is a notation in pencil on the reverse which reads "1913-14" which was the most obvious clue as to its period. In cases where a card has not been posted or where the cancellation is illegible there are other ways to help determine the date. The type of back is one clue; the printing method and the postage cost are some others. Here's a link if you're curious:
